Frequently asked questions

Everything you should know before your night in the igloo.

When is the Iglu Lodge open?

Every winter from 27 December to early April, or until the snow melts.

What kinds of igloos are there?

The Igloo Suite for 2 with its own hot tub (a Finnish bathing barrel, no bubbles), the Romance igloo for 2 and the Dreams igloo for up to 4 people on 2.90 m of bed space.

When and where do we meet?

Always at 4 pm, on the right in the conservatory of the Panorama Restaurant at Höfatsblick station. Be in Oberstdorf by 2:30 or 3 pm. Arriving later isn’t possible.

Is the cable car ticket included?

No. You buy it on site at the ticket desk and get a discount on the ride up and down as an igloo guest. Ski passes are priced separately.

What happens after booking?

You’ll get a link to your travel info with parking, the ride up, the meeting point and packing list. The invoice follows in a separate email.

What should I wear?

Dress like you’re going skiing: winter boots, ski clothes, a hat and gloves. Please travel with a backpack, not a suitcase.

Can children come?

Yes, although we recommend a minimum age of 10

Can I bring my dog?

Pets are not allowed.

Are there showers and toilets?

There’s a separate sanitary container with a toilet and small washbasin. There are no showers or toilets in the sleeping igloos.

What about the sauna and hot tub?

The barrel saunas are shared by all guests, so bring your own towel. The hot tub belongs to the Igloo Suite and can’t be booked separately; towels are provided there.

Can I light a fire?

No. Out of respect for wildlife and nature, fires are not allowed in or around the lodge.

What’s for dinner?

Homemade Allgäu cheese fondue with white wine and kirsch. During online check-in you can choose goulash soup or a vegan vegetable curry instead. Bringing your own food and drinks isn’t allowed. The ice bar in the big main igloo takes cash only.

What’s it like sleeping in an igloo?

On beds of snow with insulating fleece, foam boards, a mattress and reindeer furs, in an expedition sleeping bag with a hygiene liner. The temperature stays around freezing.

Is there power and light?

There are no sockets, so bring a power bank. Light comes from battery-powered light cubes.

Can an igloo collapse?

No. Thanks to the dome shape and thick walls, the igloos are so sturdy that even snow groomers can drive over them!

Can I cancel or rebook?

Every cancellation or change incurs a fee, scaled according to our terms. Travel cancellation insurance is available, and you can send a replacement guest.

What if the lodge has to cancel?

If, for example, a storm stops the cable car, we’ll arrange a new date or you’ll get a voucher for next season. The deposit is not refunded. We need your mobile number for the day of arrival.

What about the Iglu Village Kühtai?

We no longer run the Iglu Village Kühtai. At this address you’ll now find our Iglu Lodge on the Nebelhorn in Oberstdorf.
